ANSI / EIA / TIA-568-C.0

The ANSI / EIA /T IA-568-C.0 (2009) standard is commonly used when certifying fiber optic LAN or building datacom installations.

Fiber optic testing in compliance with the popular ANSI /EIA /T IA-568-C.0 (2009) standard requires appropriate scope of works (at the network specification stage), and:

  • and any two-way loss test requirement.

Tier 1: Multimode Loss Test Equipment

Instruments with 850 / 1300 nm LED source, Category 1 compliant. The required mandrel wraps are supplied as standard. These instruments can also test 1300 nm single-mode systems with up to 10 dB loss.

Basic: For low volume or occasional use.

The instruments can be locked by a supervisor to a particular wavelength.

General: For high volume or frequent use. 

These instruments have integrated automated reporting and data handling.

(Tier 1) Polarity / Continuity Test Procedures

These craft procedures are specific to equipment and situations, and detailed procedures are not covered by these standards.

Procedures for eye safety are the responsibility of the organization performing relevant work, and will need to conform to current laser safety standards, particularly for visible laser fault finders.

Although not formally related to this standard, the IEC/ EN 61300-3-35 standard is commonly used as a reference for this activity

Tier 2 Procedures (optional)

For optional OTDR testing, there is no particular standards recommended procedure. A launch cord should be used, either 100 m for multimode or 300 m for single mode.
